Built for the long way through.
The Brushtail Neck Gaiter is a warm, moisture-wicking and durable neck warmer crafted from a blend of Brushtail possum, merino wool and mulberry silk. This organic combination results in a highly versatile performance garment, perfectly suited for both nights in the arctic cold and demanding excursions across mountains.
The possum fur consists of hollow fibres, making the material exceptionally warm, breathable and lightweight. Much like polar bear fur, it does not hold moisture, which prevents it from freezing and allows you to breath easily through the fabric even in freezing conditions.
In New Zealand, the Brushtail possum is an invasive species with no natural predators, posing a severe threat to the local ecosystem. Through a national conservation program, essential population control is carried out, allowing the fur to be salvaged as a sustainable byproduct. Our products are made in collaboration with a small-scale, family owned weaving mill in New Zealand.
Brushtail Gaiters was born from firsthand experience during arctic expeditions and the practical advantages of working in garments made from possum fur. We believe this unique wool blend is tailor-made for an active lifestyle in the arctic and sub arctic climate.
